Gary Carter and Dave McKay will be sworn in as the 47th and 48th members of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame on June 23rd at the Hall of Fame grounds in St. Mary's, Ontario.

Dave McKay, a Vancouver native, loves the game of baseball and is confident that more Canadians will continue to play key roles in Major League Baseball.

For the past five years Dave has been first base coach for the St. Louis Cardinals and has just completed his 30th Spring Training. His playing career spanned eight years, beginning with two years for the Minnesota Twins in 1975, then three years with the Toronto Blue Jays and finishing with three years in the Oakland Athletics organization under the management of Billy Martin. Once his playing days were over, he started a coaching career with the A's, which continued when Tony LaRussa was named manager of the A's in 1986. Tony also asked Dave to join him in St. Louis when LaRussa took over as Manager for the Cardinals.

Dave holds the distintion of being the only Canadian to hit a home run in his first major league at bat and being the only Canadian on the field during the first ever Toronto Blue Jays game on April 7, 1977. During that game he had a pair of hits and drove in the winning run in the 9-5 victory over the Chicago White Sox. In the 1978 season, he had a 16 game hitting streak.

Dave is excited by the upcoming induction ceremonies and proud to have been elected to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame.

Gary Carter is thankful that the Montreal Expos gave him his start in professional baseball and has spent 16 years being involved with the Montreal Expos organization, which includes 2 years as a minor leaguer, 11 seasons in the majors, and three more as a broadcaster. Gary is considered to be the best catcher of his era and the most popular Expos player of all time. He hit 220 of his career 324 home runs as an Expo in 1,503 games and was named Expos Player of the Year four times.

Carter, who makes his year-round home in Florida near the Expos and Cardinals' Spring Training facility, is honoured to be inducted to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and is still amazed by the support he receives from Canadian fans.
