St. Marys –Artifacts tell stories.  They are tangible reminders of moments in time; mementoes of significant people, places and events.  As time passes, they become evidence of history; a rich resource for research.

At the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum, we are grateful for the incredible objects and archival material entrusted to us by donors compelled to preserve physical evidence of Canada’s impact on the history of baseball and to share memories of Canadians who have excelled at building and playing the game.

Take for instance the collection of Harry Simmons.  Known as Mr. Baseball, Simmons’ unrivalled knowledge of baseball history, rules and statistics landed him a job with the International League in 1946, the same historic season that Jackie Robinson played his first year of integrated baseball with the Montreal Royals.  After handling much of the press coverage related to Robinson, Simmons spent many years at the International League’s head office in Montreal consulting on player contracts, finances and staffing, as well as creating schedules for both the International League and for Major League Baseball.  After he passed away in 1998, the objects and written material he collected over the years was donated to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum.  It is a rich resource coveted by baseball researchers internationally.
It is important that this collection, along with all of the artifacts entrusted to us, be preserved and shared in a way that meets the highest museum standards so that these objects continue to be a resource for baseball enthusiasts and researchers well into the future.  To do this we need your support.

This past year, with help from museum professionals volunteering their time, we have assessed and initiated improvements to our care of collection practices.  There is a significant cost associated with researching, preserving, cataloguing, digitizing and appropriately storing our collection. Your gift to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum will enable us to improve the care of our collection.  Consider this:

__ Your gift of $35 provides three acid-free, waterproof boxes for storing documents such as historic score sheets.
__ Your gift of $75 supplies archival-grade sleeves for 900 baseball cards.
__ Your gift of $125 supports the purchase of a trolley for safely storing 20 baseball bats.
__ Your gift of $200 provides a temperature and humidity logger ensuring an optimal environment for artifacts.
__ Your gift of $500 contributes to a mount for properly displaying game-worn jerseys.

Thank you for considering a gift to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum.  With your support we will preserve the artifacts that tell important stories of Canadian baseball for generations to.
