St. Marys It'll probably be the closest any of us comes to meeting Sean Connery, Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, Regis Philbin, and Jesse Jackson all on the same night.
On Saturday, June 23, NBC's Saturday Night Live's Darrell Hammond, the hilarious impersonator of a seemingly endless list of the rich and famous, who is SNL's longest serving cast member in their 32-year history, will delight St. Marys with a stand-up comedy routine at 7:30pm under the tent on the Hall's Ceremonial Grounds (386 Church St. South).
That same Saturday morning, the highly popular entertainer, who normally commands upwards of fifty thousand dollars per performance, is serving as Master of Ceremonies for the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame's Induction Ceremony of Sparky Anderson, Sherry Robertson and John Haar, beginning at 11:00am. On top of that, Hammond is performing on Broadway in New York City on both the evening before as well as in the afternoon on the next day. He will receive the red carpet treatment while in St. Marys, but it will be a whirlwind tour!
Doors will open for the licensed event at 6:45pm, with a barbecue as well. Following Hammond on stage will be Canada's number one party band, Tara Tuma, featuring St. Marys own Rob Edney as lead singer.
Tickets will be $15 if bought in advance, $25 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased in person at the Hall's administrative office (140 Queen St.) or the museum (386 Church St. S.) or M&M Variety (6 Water St.), or by phone 519-284-1838 or by emailing baseball@baseballhalloffame.ca
More information, as well as samples of Hammond's best performances can be found at www.baseballhalloffame.ca
Canadian Lorne Michaels, creator and producer of Saturday Night Live and an avid baseball lover and minor league franchise owner, made the connection of Hammond to the Hall as a result of a meeting last year with Ball Hall president & CEO Tom Valcke.
"Lorne knew that we had Rod Black and Peter Mansbridge emcee the past two ceremonies, and you can't get much higher profile celebrities in this country, so he promised to help the Hall find its way to Hollywood," said Valcke.
"Lorne hit one out of the park in helping us land Darrell Hammond, who is remarkably gifted and quite a baseball fan himself. Over the past couple of days, not everyone I've mentioned his name to knew him right way, but as soon as I said that he is the guy you've seen impersonate Sean Connery on SNL's Celebrity Jeopardy, and Bill Clinton ... then they know exactly who he is."
Proceeds from the night will go towards assisting needy children to participate the Hall's Kids On Deck program, which are summer baseball camps for boys and girls.
A show for families on Sunday
On Sunday, June 24, at 4:00pm (doors open at 3:30pm), Splash 'N Boots will perform under the Hall's induction tent on its Ceremonial Grounds. Splash 'N Boots, featuring Thorndale's Nick Adams, beat out Robert Munsch to win the 2007 Children's Artist of the Year, and won at the Hamilton Music Awards and well as being named Best Performers by "iParenting's" Media.
Tickets are $5/person (children under 2 free) and are available at the Hall's administrative office, its museum, M&M Variety and St. Marys Daycare (see Sam).
