St. Marys Building on more than three hundred enthusiastic local youths participating in the Hall of Fame's winter indoor training program, the Pepsi Hit, Run & Throw Contest two weeks ago, and the Toronto Blue Jays clinic last Saturday, the Hall of Fame opens its doors for the 2006 season this weekend.
On Saturday, all participants in the Friday night free clinics held at DCVI will receive their certificates from 2000 inductee Jim Fanning at noon, followed by a free BBQ for the kids, free admission to the museum for the kids, and then a kids-parents baseball game.
The 18 & under All-Star team sponsored by the Hall of Fame playing in the Premier Baseball League of Ontario opens its home schedule on Sunday with a doubleheader versus the Niagara Rebels beginning at 11:00am on the St. Marys Cement Company Field.
The museum will be open on weekends throughout May, from 10:30am-4:00 Saturdays and noon-4:00 on Sundays, and then beginning June 1st will open seven days/week, 10:30am-4:00 Monday through Saturday and noon-4:00 on Sundays.
"Like the Stratford Festival, we want to remind everyone in our community that the Hall of Fame is a wonderful option when hosting visitors to the area," said Hall president & CEO Tom Valcke.
"In addition to enjoying the museum experience, we encourage visitors to bring along their gloves and 'have a catch' on Canada's field of dreams - it is an experience that will always be remembered."
Note: The Hall of Fame is still looking for a summer employee to work as a museum guide and gift shop salesperson. If you enjoy history and dealing with the public, please contact the Hall a.s.a.p. at 284-1838 or baseball@baseballhalloffame.ca. Naturally, baseball knowledge and passion would be helpful, but we will provide all necessary training.
