Hall's Premier Baseball League of
Ontario Entry Earns Respect

Guelph – After getting mercy-ruled twice on Saturday by Team Toronto, the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame's 18 & under squad swept Ottawa 4-2 and 7-4, boosting their record to 2-5-1 for the season to date.

"We've known all along that there was good baseball in these guys as we watched them train indoors throughout the winter, and they sure blossomed today," said manager Shawn Lynn. "This being our first year in the circuit, and with our roster still short a couple of pitching arms, we expect to take our lumps. Our goal from the beginning has been to play hard and make the routine plays. Today, those fundamentals turned into a pair of key victories."

Both of the Hall's PBLO teams play doubleheaders this Saturday at home beginning at 11:00, with the 18's hosting Team Ontario on St. Marys Cement Company Field and the 16's hosting the Ontario Blue Jays on Rotary Field. A concession stand and bbq will be available to fans who are encouraged to come out and see our new teams.

St. Marys 4, Ottawa 2

Robert Ramsdale took a no-hitter and eight strikeouts into the final inning, but after throwing 94 pitches the day before, his arm tired and Ottawa mounted a comeback with three consecutive markers.  Reliever Phil Cave faced four hitters and shut the door.

Offensively, Matt Bogue and James Bruce each scored in the first and sixth innings, thanks to heady baserunning and defensive breakdowns by Ottawa.  Cave knocked in a pair of runs, with Bruce and Kyle Fisher driving home the other two.

St. Marys 7, Ottawa 4

Bruce set the pace early in this game with a leadoff infield single, and then stealing second for one of his five thefts in the doubleheader.  Kris Hodges doubled home Bruce for the first of his three RBI for the game.  In the second, Paul Bahous led off with a walk, stole second, and trotted home on junior call-up Jeff Dobos' double.  Garrett Fisher then singled and moved to second when Dobos was thrown out at the plate.  Joel Slack, the other junior call-up, drove home Fisher and advanced to third on consecutive singles by Boge and Bruce.  Hodges then singled to knock in two more.  In the third frame, Garrett Fisher drove home Bahous, who had singled and stolen, with a single up the middle.  Kyle Fisher and Cave hit back to back doubles in the fourth to round out the scoring for the Hall.

Joe Belcot kept Ottawa at bay scattering eight hit over five innings, and Cave notched his second save allowing just one hit over the rest of the way maintaining his 0.00 ERA. Toronto 13, St. Marys 1 (5 innings)

Kyle Fisher had the Hall's lone hit and RBI of the game when he drove home Matt Bogue.

Belcot, Slack and Bruce pitched, and Dobos made the play of the game when he began a double play by snaring a ground ball at third base, threw out the batter-runner at first, and then received the throw back and tagged out the Toronto runner trying to advance to third.

Toronto 13, St. Marys 3 (6 innings) Pitchers Ramsdale and Cave weren't given much defensive support, as the Hall made six errors in the game.

Cave doubled to lead off the second inning, was sacrifed to third by TomGateman, but was thrown out at home when trying to give the Hall the early lead.  Cave singled and stole in the fourth inning, and was driven home by a line drive single to left field by Dobos.   With two out in the sixth, Dobos walked and scored when Matt Chornaby doubled to the right center field gap.  Chornaby stole third and scored on a wild pitch.  The Hall left the bases loaded twice, and had seven runners left on base all together.
