St. Marys There is going to be much more to be heard on Induction Weekend than just the crack of the bat and some amazing acceptance speeches, as the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame will be hosting a pair of concerts on the Ceremonial Grounds. Proceeds will go towards the damage from recent vandalism to the Hall and the KIDS ON DECK summer camp program where baseball is used to teach cultural awareness to youth.
On Saturday, June 25, following the induction ceremony for Dave Stieb, Steve Rogers, Doc Younker and Pop Smith, the site will be converted into a concert venue and Tara Tuma will play that evening, along with Darcy Scheuerman and his band. Tara Tuma features lead singer Rob Edney, town councillor and owner of The World's Coolest Music Store. This event will be licensed.
On Sunday, June 26 (late afternoon), four bands will perform on the site including Going Down Screaming, Stone Haven, Shadows of May and The Summer I Lost Everything.
"It has long been the direction of our board to expand our services and our client base," noted Hall president & CEO Tom Valcke. "We actually built the St. Marys Cement Company Field in an amphitheatre style so that someday we can host major concerts there. The two concerts on Induction Weekend will not only give us a start in this area or programming, but Sunday's event is an effort to reach out to the youth of the St. Marys Community and tell them that we're here for them too."
Tickets are $8.00 in advance for either day and $10.00 at the door, and can be purchased at the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame's museum at 386 Church St. S., or the Hall's administration office at 140 Queen St. E. by calling (519) 284-1838 or email baseball@baseballhalloffame.ca as well as M & M Variety, Dunny's Source for Sports and The World's Coolest Music Store.
