15th ANNUAL GARY CARTER CLASSIC
SCORES BIG FOR CHARITY

Officials estimated that they will clear approximately $ 115,000 from the 15th Annual Gary Carter Sweet'N Low Golf Classic which took place in late February at the Abacoa Golf Club.

The funds will be shared by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the Gary Carter Foundation. "This tournament has raised more than $ 1,000,000 to help fund research programs and to educate people and their families who are suffereing from this terrible disease," said Marvin Eisenstadt, President of Sweet'N Low, which sponsors the tournament. "We are honored to be part of such a great event."

Gary Carter's mother died as the results of leukemia when he was only 12-years-old and he says working with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society "is a labour of love. If my mother was diagnosed today, she would have a real chance of surviving and a long, fulfilling life. This gives me great peace," he said.

Some of Carter's friends in the world of sports headed the five-somes. Traditionally, the field is divided into two flights, National League and American League.

Among the top celebrities taking part were, Tommy Hutton, Stan Bahnsen, Tom Underwood, Steve Walsh, Rick Rhoden, Ivan Murrell, Mike Schmidt, Dwight Stephenson, Jim Palmer, John Havlicek and Jim McMahon.
