In 22 games last month, Chavez hit .337 (30x89), leading all NL freshmen with 30 hits, including five doubles and five triples. He scored 16 runs, while adding nine RBI and three stolen bases. Chavez also hit his first career home run September 21 at New York, while establishing a career high with four hits in that game. Recalled from AAA-Ottawa September 2, Chavez became the first Lynx player to win the International League batting title, finishing the season with a .343 (139x405) average. His batting average also set a Lynx record, breaking the mark of .323 set by Jose Vidro in 1997. Montreal Expos 3 October 2002 |
