Jamey Carroll said that he didn't mind coming back to Harrisburg during 2000. He was talking about the Senators' FANFEST in which Jamey was back to sign autographs with teammates Milton Bradley and Brain Schneider. Heck, it followed one of the greatest moment in sports history as Bradley hit the "Slam" to win the 1999 Eastern League Championship. Who wouldn't want to come back. Well, Jamey thought that the FANFEST was going to be his final visit of the year to RiverSide Stadium. However, Carroll got off to a slow start in Ottawa (triple-A) and was sent back to play for the Senators."I didn't mind coming back to Harrisburg. I really like it there and it gave me a chance to get things straightened out and get back to Ottawa," said Carroll from his year-round home in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Jamey did get things straightened out and was sent up to triple-A where he finished with a solid .278 average and finished third on the team with 97 hits while playing in just 91 games. Even with the great finish, Jamey is working hard to earn a starting spot with the Lynx this year. Carroll took off very little time this off-season. He began his workouts of lifting and running as soon as he got home to Florida. About a month later, a little throwing and hitting was added. Now, it's throwing and hitting every other day as Jamey prepares for minor league spring training. Like most professional players, Carroll takes advantage of the local high schools for his workouts. He works out with the high school team and also trains some at the Tampa Bay Devil Rays spring training facility in St. Petersburg. Keep in mind, all this working out has to be done when Carroll gets home from the other work. Jamey is a substitute teacher and can find a spot most every day. He has been teaching children from the ages of 3 to 18 and really enjoys the job. It appears that Carroll has a possibility to continue as a teacher when his playing days are over. For now, Carroll still has the excitement and the ability to make himself a hit on the field.
