While many of the Chicago Cubs highly regarded prospects started out slowly in this 2000 season, MIKE MEYERS has been in a league of his own, carving up ' AA ' SOUTHERN LEAGUE lineups...Coming off a breakthrough 1999 season, he was a 26th-round draft pick in 1997, and has since exceeded expectations at every level...After going 14 - 3 with a minor league best 1.73 ERA between the Class ' A ' FLORIDA STATE LEAGUE and the SOUTHERN LEAGUE last year, the 22-year-old righthander had limited opponents to a stingy .078 batting average against in his first three starts in this campaign...A native of Ontario he has drawn praise from scouts and coaches for his polished repertoire, consisting of a plus-curveball, moving upper-80's fastball and developed changeup, as well as his poise in a jam, however, there haven't been too many jams for him to work out of this year and a promotion to ' AAA ' is on the horizon if he continues to master ' AA '.
